The ERT advocates policies at both the national and European levels. Companies of ERT Members have their headquarters situated in 18 European countries. Their combined turnover is €1,500 billion and they employ around 4.5 million people worldwide.

The Secretary General is in charge of a small Secretariat based in Brussels, which coordinates projects, acts as a contact point, provides administrative support and publishes the ERT reports.

Membership in the ERT is personal (not corporate). Individuals can join through the personal invitation of an existing Member.
